Our life consists of;
baby. kitchen. baby. kitchen. don't throw tantrums. breathe. rinse repeat.
We are 28 days into the remodel.
The original plan was 12 ish - contrator mutters under breath weeks. I am counting on 16 weeks.
Which would put a finish date of April 24. Lets see how that goes.
Here's the update so far.
Awesome #1.
Removed 1 wall + 1 staircase. Both discovered to be load bearing.
Awesome #2.
Removed oak floor. Discovered sub floor not good.
Awesome #3.
Removed plaster from outside walls. No insulation.
Awesome #4.
Previous owner moved plumbing from wall removed. Or not.
It was then... we decided, not to mess with anymore walls or widen anymore doorways. Sometimes hidden gems should be left hidden.
We also learned to.... Put a hammer to the walls and take a looksee before knocking down things. It's may not change your ideas, but it will lessen the pain.
The "blue room" used to be an outside porch. We aren't sure what year someone enclosed it.
Look at the cool archway they uncovered.
We really tried to save it, but cannot figure out how to make it appealing from both sides.
New mudroom. We would love to keep exposed brick somewhere, but it is FREEZING.
The more insulation we can stuff in all of these walls the better.
The is an upshot of the new closet - currently floorless.
I have an idea...
That may cost umm money and umm opening the closet wall..
just enough for a child size doorway.
Remember how we always wanted a "secret passage"... Discuss amongst yourselves.
The most exciting thing thus far! Old door is almost a distant memory!
Unfortunately, he didn't finish and the next day it plummeted to 15 degrees. eek. cold.
He is finishing today. Hopefully, the new door (and windows) will arrive soon.
Much better placement.
Here is the production schedule for now

A secret passage for our secret society meetings! Perfect... every old house really needs one. Maybe you should do a secret bookcase doorway thing into the blue room. The new door placement does look great!
