Guess what. I moved out. Temporarily.
While the walls are being knocked down, sending plaster, asbestos and lead paint through the air. All that kind of good stuff.
I moved out. So our baby won't suck in all these toxins.
We thought we had until January 3 to pack in an organized manner.
Not so much.
We were surprised with the news at 9:00 am on December 27.
We had packed nada. Yikes.
It was and is... not pretty.
(and I packed in my yoga pants. sloppy)
We are thrilled to have started the project finally. And hope it is completed by July =)

Want to see pre-kitchen demolition pictures and a brief overview?
The sink is gone and relocated. In Phase 2 of remodel, the window will be replaced with french doors leading to the backyard. It will stay for now.
The doorway to the right of this room will be the new mudroom.
The new entry door is moving here. (see below)
Right now, this is what we use as the main entrance. (Guests can use the front door, but often choose not to). It is smack dab in the middle of the kitchen. The amount of outdoor material tracked in through this door is insane (re: embarrassing). We are moving the doorway to the new tiled mud room. YAY!!!
We are excited to see how many layers of linoleum is on this floor.
We are HOPING under the yucky, will be oak floors.
If not, we plan on replacing the floor with wide-plank maple.
Which we will stain the color of a gym floor to brighten up the house a bit.
Looking forward to a bigger pantry!
(and drawers/cabinets that close..properly in all humidity levels)
And dreaming of a new stove.
Back staircases. Dark. Dangerous. I am happy to see these go.
Currently the kitchen is long and narrow.
Removing the staircase buys about 5 more feet in width.
In the place of these, possible second floor laundry?!! (maybe, we'll see..not sure if I like or hate this idea)
This wall is shared with the butler's pantry.
It is going away to open up the space substantially.
Butler's Pantry. It's a little sad to get rid of this. Unfortunately, we need the space and in today's world a butler's pantry is not a necessary use of space. A real pantry and a fridge located IN the kitchen is necessary.
There is an old laundry shoot in the kitchen, we plan on reviving... which I am extremely excited about...
(notice the stepstool.. my kitchen new and old, is way too tall for me)

That is all from kitchen world for now.
This will be a weekly update in blog world.
For my own personal documentation.

How about some new pictures of the demo! That is always impressive to me.. because (1) it always goes so quickly! and (2) the space always seems so big when it's all stripped down. When can you move back in?
