Chair in the Attic

We are on the hunt for furniture. Estate sales are good hunting grounds for antique furniture. As a bonus you get to see inside people's homes and make up little crazy stories about their lives.

This weekend, we went to such an estate sale. We purchased some linens ($5) from an old Cleveland club, to be used as hand towels in the first floor bath. Pretty cool. But the main goal was furniture.

So up we went, to the attic. And there we saw this rocking chair all by itself, in the dark room, with it's horsehair/hay/burlap seat spilling out debris all over the floor. It was crying save me, love me, rock in me. YES! Of course I will!

We carried it down 3 narrow flights of stairs, out into the snowy/slushy yard, opened the car.

BAMM! the chair would not fit in the car. Oh no, there is no plan B! Luckily my handyman Chip, rigged some rope and secured it as much as possible. I sat in the back seat, holding onto the chair through the trunk*. It's a shame there aren't pictures of this pathetic little scene. We should get an SUV.

I am in love with this chair. It needs a new seat/upholstery and some minor wood restoration, but she is beautiful. AND A BARGAIN AT $34.00!

*This story sounds vaguely similar.

The chair is beautiful! I am very jealous you found such a diamond in the rough. It will be great for the crazy cat lady phase of your life.
